Anchor Optical 7x50 WW2 Naval Binoculars

My latest toy, a pair of WW2 7x50 naval binoculars by the American firm Anchor Optical Corporation of New York. Marked with a British Government arrow, they will have been manufactured for supply to Britain under the Lend-Lease scheme. Serial number is 43466.

This pattern of binocular was developed by Bausch & Lomb, but during the war, various firms in America and Canada were granted licenses, including Anchor Optical. On the left, there is the remnant of a sticker urging caution when cleaning the lenses since they have been coated (bloomed). Bausch & Lomb developed a magnesium flouride anti reflection lens coating which enhanced image brightness. Coatings were applied to military binoculars from 1943 and older models may have been retro-fitted with these lenses when returned to base workshops for repair or servicing. Since some people, unused to the purplish tint, tried to clean it off, warning stickers were applied to such binoculars.

These are in excellent mechanical and optical condition, in an original leather case, although as is often the case, eyepiece filters, contained in a pouch in the case lid, are missing.
