Springvale Ponds, Cwmbran 30 June 2018

The Springvale Ponds, laid along a small stream, are set in what was once the corner of GKN’s spoil tips, piled high with old foundry moulding sand and close to a shale extraction area, the product of which went to provide foundations for Llanwern Steel Works, built in the 1960s. As a reclamation scheme it is perhaps a little too successful, becoming ever more choked up.
