307/365 - this is a man's world - this is a Man's world... but it wouldn't be nuthin' - without a woman or a girl
365 - The 2010 Edition * November 3, 2010
For Musically Challenged - and Beyond.The.Box's challenge.
"This is a Man's World" - by James Brown
Runnin' low on inspiration - but listenin' to this fits my mood pretty well tonight.. This morning, a guy I work with got a call telling him to come to the hospital - that his younger brother who had checked in with pneumonia was dying of a staff infection.. He was 7 years younger than me - in great shape - a runner - and as I write this, he is probably already dead.
Something like that always makes me think about the things I have that I truly give a damn about - and they are pretty much all around family and friends. But in the end, it's my wife that I think about the most.. She's the one I do this for - this 'life'.. She's the reason I get up in the morning, and the reason I go to bed at night. I used to think when it came to dying, I wanted to go first, so that I wouldn't have to go on without her. But the more I think about it, the more cowardly that seems to me. I would definitely want to be there for her always - and that includes taking care of her in the end. Definitely.
This is a man's world, this is a man's world
But it wouldn't be nothing, nothing without a woman or a girl
You see, man made the cars to take us over the road
Man made the trains to carry heavy loads
Man made electric light to take us out of the dark
Man made the boat for the water, like Noah made the ark
This is a man's, a man's, a man's world
But it wouldn't be nothing, nothing without a woman or a girl
