Stop, Mr. Postman!

This is my dad when he was about twenty, working on his tan in front of the car in 1949. By this time, he was probably in the Marines, which would explain the neck-up tan. They're not big on letting the boys work on their tans when they are State-side.

 

This is the guy my mom met and married, and she may have even taken the picture, although normally she would have gotten her finger in the picture..

 

He was such a badass. Cocky enough to ask out an "older woman" on a city bus, who turned to him and said, "Son, I'm too old for you, but I have a niece that would be just about right for you. Give me your address, and I'll see if she wants to write."

 

'Hooking up' could be a long, tedious process in those days. Can you imagine waiting while the aunt writes the niece, who takes a day or two to write a total stranger, then writing back and forth, and maybe even including a picture or two?

 

"Stop, Mr. Postman!!

If there's a letter, a letter for me
