Watched "Music and Lyrics" this weekend.. And something she said in the movie struck me as I was listening to the songs in Musically Challenged, and came across this one by Snow Patrol.. When the words and the melody come together - it's magic... A lot of SP's music is... different.. The words alone don't make much sense - not the way country music tells a story - but when they put the words to music - magic happens..
I know this song is something about splitting up - or separation - and that's what makes it special - that ambiguity allows us to hear what WE want to hear in the song.. And the slow, circular rhythm of the music is mesmerizing - hypnotic.. rather like watching a fire burn... "even if you cannot hear my voice - I'll be right there beside you dear.."
