I have a hard time putting words precisely what the symbolism is that these locks are intended to represent. I suppose it’s a bit like carving one’s initials into a tree or a park bench.. A doodle that’s meant to represent the joining of two people “forever”.. or a message, written down for someone else to find and read, like a message in a bottle.. It’s ‘we were here, together, on this day..’…

 

And then there are the free thinkers.. The ones who just want to pass along a ‘hello’, or spread a little joy to some unknown person who might need a smile.. A random act of kindness.. Or maybe it’s the most secretive message of all – one with no initials or dates, but is understood by the one person who can decode the message left in green and yellow paint…
