Das Gefieder des Flussregenpfeifers ist überwiegend weiß mit etwas braun und wenig schwarz. Wenn man ihn z.B. mit den etwas kleineren Spatzen vergleicht, könnte man meinen, er sei nicht gut getarnt. In Wirklichkeit ist sein Federkleid eine perfekt an seinen Lebensraum angepasste Tarnung und wenn er sich nicht bewegt ist er verdammt schwer zu entdecken. Man findet ihn dann eigentlich nur, wenn man weiß, dass er da ist und gezielt nach ihm Ausschau hält. Das Foto habe ich am Rhein in seinem bevorzugten Habitat gemacht und man sieht sehr gut, dass dort am Flussufer exakt seine Farben vorkommen.
The plumage of the little ringed plover is predominantly white with some brown and a little black. If you compare it with that of the somewhat smaller sparrows, for example, you might think that it is not well camouflaged.However, its plumage is a camouflage perfectly adapted to its habitat and when it is not moving it is extremely difficult to spot. You can only really find it if you know it's there and look out for it. I took this photo in its preferred habitat and you can see very clearly that its colours match exactly those of the pebbles and puddles on the river bank.
