ZACA East (Ouagadougou/Burkina Faso)

The ZACA Project is a Governmental initiative to redevelop the central area of Ouagadougou launched in the eighties and executed from 2001. It was a question of demolishing the popular and unsanitary quarters of Zangouétin and Koulouba (ZACA East) and Kamsaoghin (ZACA West) on both sides of the well-known Kwame N'Krumah Boulevard. The population had to move to some host neighbourhoods, which significantly impacted their living organisation, notably through informal economic activities (new customers to find, distance from sources of supply, etc.).

In the ZACA area, many buildings are still under construction or unachieved. Here is an example of the Ethiopian restaurant Heregua on the Avenue de l'UEMOA, which has closed.
