G-ASKG "Big Joe"

Aviation Traders ATL-98 Carvair

10382/10

British Air Ferries (BAF)

There was a tree nursery directly adjoining the northeastern part of the airport. The area was later used for the new charter terminal erected in 1988 and its parking lots.

G-ASKG was also noted at Riem on 23 February and 21 March 1974.

Information from airliners.net - thanks to Richard Vandervord:

This, the 10th Carvair conversion, was delivered to BUAF in 8.63 but immediately went to work with Alisud in Italy for six months. Changing name from "Channel Bridge" to "Big Joe" when BUAF became BAF in 1967, she was bought by TAR in 3.69 but leased back in 4.72, reverting to G-ASKG with BAF in 3.73. To Congo 2.75; broken up as 9Q-CTI at Kinshasa in 1995.

Information from Propliner Magazine on Facebook:

Following wartime service with the USAAF, Douglas C-54A Skymaster N1221V (c/n 10382) was delivered to Braathens-SAFE as LN-HAU on March 13 1947. Sold to Seaboard & Western as N1221V in October 1950, she was named "Oslo Airtrader", and apart from a lease to Trans Caribbean Airways in 1953, remained in Seaboard operation until sold in 1959. She later flew with Interocean Airways from Luxembourg as LX-BBP and eventually became a Carvair following conversion as G-ASKG in 1963.
