Metropolitan Cathedral of St. Paul.

Inlaid marble tombstones that make up the Cathedral's extraordinary floor.

The cathedral floor is entirely covered with hundreds of these polychrome marble tombstones.

The tombstone commemorates Salvator Farrugia (Salvatore Farrugia), born in Senglea (In Civitate Senglea Ortus).

The Latin inscription highlights his highest academic and religious qualifications, including doctorates in Philosophy, Sacred Theology, and Canon Law (Ph.D., S.Th.D., J.C.D.).

He was a renowned canon and treasurer (Canonicus Thesaurarius), promoter of justice, and held prominent positions in the archiepiscopal tribunal.

The inscription indicates that he was called to eternal life (Ad Vitam Aeternam Vocatus) in January 1992 (MCMXCII), at the age of 86 (Annos LXXXVI Natus).

The upper section depicts a seated angel holding an hourglass, a classic Christian symbol of the passing of time and the transitory nature of earthly life.

Next to the angel stands the canon's ecclesiastical coat of arms, surmounted by the characteristic black tasselled prelatical hat (galero).

The shield depicts a rooster, an element often linked to the iconography of the Farrugia family or the symbolism of spiritual vigilance.

The Book and the Miter: At the angel's feet is a closed book (symbol of wisdom and doctrine), while the lower section of the marble structure features an inlaid white miter, recalling the liturgical privileges of the capitulars.
