New Mexico's Rail Runner Express runs regional rail service for nearly 100 miles from Belen to Santa Fe, through Albuquerque. The trains run on tracks purchased from BNSF in 2005, owned by the state of New Mexico.
Here, on a quiet Sunday afternoon, northbound train #708 blasts off out of Albuquerque after its 3:11 pm departure from Downtown's Alvarado Transportation Center.
Rail Runner trains are hauled by a fleet of nine MPI MP36PH-3C locomotives. This one, NMRX 107, was built in September 2008 for Rail Runner's Phase II extension to Santa Fe.
