LEGO F6F Hellcat MOC
Hey guys, I'm back once again with another MOC! This time, I show you my F6F Hellcat I made. The Grumman F6F, introduced in the latter parts of 1943, primarily served in the Pacific during World War II, deployed with the U.S. Navy as a carrier-based fighter. It was one of the first naval aircraft the U.S. came up with during the war that effectively exploited weaknesses cited in Japanese aircraft of the opposite side. For instance, some major Japanese front-line aircraft (such as the A6M Zero) had no armor around the fuel tanks, or rear armor plating protecting the pilot. The Hellcat incorporated armor pretty much anywhere designers could make room for it. In addition, it was armed with six 50-caliber machine guns (three on each wing) recessed in the leading edge of the wings. These considerations Grumman made while designing this aircraft proved to be absolutely critical to its success, and the F6F was thus used extensively until the end of World War II.
My model features working landing gear, space for a minfigure inside the cockpit, and folding wings for stowage to conserve space (similarly to how the wings folded on the real Hellcat). I hope you guys like it! Comments, faves, and constructive criticism, as always, are greatly appreciated!
