As a part of her routine immunization, Yusuf Akhlaque’s one-year-old daughter, Aisha Fatima, is being administered inactivated polio vaccine (IPV) injection by Lady Health Supervisor, Kunja Baruah, at Assam Medical College in Dibrugarh. Two and a half years ago, Yusuf Akhlaque’s elder son, Aashir (now aged four and a half, not seen), had suffered from rotavirus, causing severe diarrhea and vomiting. He had not been vaccinated against the disease and was treated at a private hospital. After being informed by the doctor that this could have been prevented through vaccination, Yusuf Akhlaque and his wife Saika Faiyaz now get their daughtervaccinated as prescribed on a timely basis
