Midlands Regional / Barnwell County Full Scale Exercise
The Midlands Regional / Barnwell County Full Scale Exercise was conducted November 15th at the Barnwell County Airport southeast of Columbia as part of a larger nationwide Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program to test local first responder resources, the Barnwell County Emergency Operations Center, and state resources.
Units from the South Carolina State Guard, including the Medical Detachment, under the command of COL Carl Kinard, and the Aviation Strike Team under the leadership of LTC Milledge Wilson were on hand to respond to the simulated mass casualty scenario.
Nearly 60 Honors student from Williston and Barnwell High Schools served as victims in the event and were transported via local Fire, Police, and EMS units, as well as Helicopter to the Barnwell County Airport where the SCSG Medical Unit was on hand to treat their injuries.
The Full Scale Exercise Directors were Karen Hutto, the Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) Midlands Region PHP Director and Roger Riley, the Barnwell County Emergency Manager.
