Mountain Lodge Hotel Neon Sign w 1962 Rambler Classic Cross Country 400 Station Wagon

Unrestored 1962 Rambler Classic Cross Country 400 Station Wagon sits stuffed under the old Mountain Lodge Hotel neon sign, which was moved from Carnuel just east of Albuquerque, New Mexico to front the West Central Route 66 Visitor Center on Nine Mile Hill in Albuquerque.

— Detail shot of the Rambler is here.

The Mountain Lodge Hotel dated back to the 1940s but burnt down on December 14, 2014. Its beat-up, landmark neon sign survived and was donated to the Center in 2020. It's been restored down to the stupendously period-stereotypical fat mexican miner in a sombrero riding a donkey, adorning the top. Thanks to flickr artist Patricia Henschen, a 2018 pic from before the sign was moved from its original site is here.

Location: West Central Route 66 Visitor Center, 12300 Central Ave. NW; 10:45am
