Guatemalan Muted Stripes

This piece is 5"X 7". I hand-sewed seven strips of used huipiles onto fleece using a rust-colored embroidery thread, then hand-sewed a free-form pattern over the top of it for a quilted look. It's very subtle. Finally, I used fabric glue to attach thin burgundy/gold ribbon to two sides.

A huipil is the traditional blouse worn by Guatemalan women and is sometimes spelled guipil.
