Insect Interactions

This is a nest made by Dolichovespula maculata or Bald-faced hornets. If you look carefully, you can see the three white bands on the tail end of the hornet sitting below the green leaves on the right side. These hornets can have a beneficial effect for trees by their omnivorous diet allowing them to eat spiders, flies, and caterpillars that could potentially harm the tree but could also be considered a neutral interaction as this is not likely to change the health of the tree in the long run.
