Carnation

Chinese culture is often exploited especially in media. Typically the Chinese women in movies are portrayed as a docile and submissive female or the “dragon lady” who is a merciless siren. When China is used in art they romanticize their own idea of what it is to them, causing the culture to be misinterpreted. The connotations surrounding them are then brought into reality. As a Chinese female, I feel uncomfortable with being associated with those representations because I want to be able to develop my own identity.
