The tawny owl is one of the most common owls in Britain but avery rarely seen due to their nocturnal habits. Typically they are found in woodlands and are very territorial, feeding on small rodents, rats, mice, rabbits and voles. This is actually a captive Tawny which I was lucky enough to photograph in ancient woodland.
With the late Spring and burst of warmth over the weekend bluebells have flourished into bloom transforming woodlands into wonderlands awash with colour throughout Essex. These iconic flowers make the most of Spring flowering before the woodland canopy is out in full leaf. They are especially important as a food source for pollinating insects such as butterflies and bees providing a rich source of nectar.
