Ai Wei Wei - Marble Chair
In this sculpture entitled "Marble Chair,” Ai Weiwei carved stone into the shape of an antique Chinese yokeback chair in a representation of the continuities and disruptions of Chinese culture that began during the Cultural Revolution and still continues today. The austere appearance of the object and its ability to represent all that has been lost in the modernization of China render it a testament to the complex historical tensions of China's past.
