The vote
An attempt to show that "The Vote" was hard won.
The base is gathered silk which has been stamped with a hand carved stamp. I then stitched lines of running stitch through the piece to show the "armies of women" who stood together during the long political process. This is also a reference to the intrusion of forced feeding - I tried to make the stitch marks " stabbing marks".
Finally I burnt the outside of the piece and added distressing ink on top of some of the folds.
This will form part of a larger piece which is standing in my workroom waiting for further inspiration. It galloped along yesterday and has come to a resounding full stop today.
