How many beach volleyball games have you been to with this many security guards?
These aren't the normal sort of Games volunteers - they marched, shouted orders and were all young males. I guessed they were all from the army maybe. And I don't remember this much security at the Athens 2004 beach volleyball, and that has just after 9/11. My view is this much security spoiled the atmosphere at the Beijing games because they were in the crowd, watching the crowd, not the game. And these are the ones in uniform - there were others in plain clothes. This much security wasn't just at the beach volleyball, most venues had a lot of security.
So the question is, for a beach volleyball game, why do you need this many guards? Paranoid?
