Nelson series 1

For my conceptual series, I decided to focus on a condition called Synesthesia. Synesthesia is a condition in which people see or hear things in color. It is different for everyone so some people may hear music notes as colors while others may see a color when they hear a number or letter. Another example is when people see a color while they think or feel a specific emotion. Typically, everybody with Synesthesia sees different colors for different things.

For my photos I decided to focus on how some people see a color when feeling an emotion. I chose to do this part because I believe it is most relatable to everyone. Many people feel an emotion when they see a color or the other way around. In my photos I did the emotions that come to mind when I saw these colors. For the first photo the color is yellow which makes me think of happiness. To me, and probably many others, yellow is a very bright and exciting color. In my second picture the color is red which I always see as anger or pain. In the next photo, the emotion is envy, which for me I see as a bright green. In the fourth, the water is a blue for sadness and despair. The last photo is a combination of many colors, which created a black that displays a feeling of loneliness or separation. In my photos the big part of showing the emotion is the color of the water; however, I also used my subjects and lighting to help display the emotion pictured. These photos may not display the color a Synesthetic sees, but just what I felt when I saw the color.
