The Courier Mail (Brisbane) article, 1942-10-22, about the taking over of Whytecliffe by the military during World War II. "New WAAF Barrack will be real home." Whytecliffe and its surrounds became the barracks for the new WAAAF recruits. My mother joined the WAAAF on 17 September 1942 and, after her induction training in Sydney and Point Cook, she lived here for at least 7 months.
