Spring of 2017 was a spectacular year for wildflowers throughout Southern California. The heavy rains that drenched the state during the previous winter brought about an extraordinary super bloom. While exploring the Antelope Valley, I noticed a distant patch of vivid red. I approached, and this lovely view unfolded. Here was a meadow of native California poppies (Eschscholzia californica) advancing north toward Antelope Buttes.
