Trinity Jerry Project 2
In this project, our objective was to choose six different subjects and take pictures of each one using different apertures and shutter speeds. After pictures were taken we were asked to select three pictures with different depths of fields; one picture that has shallow depth, middle depth and great depth. Shallow depth of field focuses on just the subject only. Middle depth of field focus on the subject and part of the background. Great depth of field focuses on the foreground, subject, and background. The whole point of this project was to learn the effects of changing the apertures. I chose to take pictures of a plant in my backyard.
I chose to use the plant as my subject because I love the way the plant looked looking through my lens. In my first image you’ll see that my plant is in focus and everything else behind it was out of focus. When I looked into the lens I made sure my aperture was at 4.0, adjusted my shutter speed to 1/6000 of a second, and made sure everything was lined up. I met the requirements need, because it represents shallow depth of field.
In my second image, I tried to reach middle depth of field. To achieve middle depth of field that means I would have to make sure my aperture was at 5.6 or 8.0. I adjusted my aperture to 5.6 and my shutter speed to 1/640 of a second. In this image you should be able to see that the subject is in focus and part of the background is in focus. I feel like I met the requirements for making this image a middle depth of field.
In my third image, my goal was to reach great depth of field. To achieve great depth of field that means I would have to make sure my aperture is high. I adjusted my aperture to 22.0 and my shutter speed at 1/40 of a second. In this image you should see that everything is in focus. This image meets the requirements of great depth of field.
The images I took of the plant and background really show the differences between shallow depth, middle depth, and great depth of field. I love plants and all different types of plants that is why I chose to focus my image around this plant. At the end of this project I feel more confident about changing my apertures and shutter speed. I learned how to take pictures using different depth of fields.
