L’Alchechengi è il frutto della pianta Physalis alkekengi che appartiene alla famiglia delle Solanacee. Si tratta di piccole bacche che assomigliano un po’ a dei pomodorini raccolte in un involucro costituito da foglie molto sottili che gli danno il caratteristico aspetto di lanterne, vengono chiamate per questo “lanterne cinesi” e le piante si utilizzano anche per abbellire i giardini orientali.
