Samuel and Bishoy - Christian Martyrs 2015

Two Egyptian brothers named Bishoy (Sept. 4th 1990-2015) and Samuel Stephanos (Nov. 26th 1992-2015) who were brutally martyred in Libya by Jihadists along with 19 other laymen Copts.

All were made saints by the Coptic Orthodox Church, however Catholics can be inspired by their example too.

The two brothers came from a village called Al Awar and were quite poor. Both had spent time in the military and Bishoy also had a degree in agriculture (?). They had travelled to Libya for work in order to earn money for their family back home and hopefully maybe even to save for their future weddings.

Bishoy was 24 and Samuel was only 22 when they were killed. Sam was very devoted to Mary and apparently was miraculously healed through the intercession of Our Lady who appeared to him and cured him of a serious brain malady.

Their martyrdom was simply horrific – they were beheaded slowly with plain bread knifes which involved a lot of cutting and slicing - the thought of it! D:

Their outstanding courage and faith is an example and inspiration for all Christians, regardless of denomination.
