Powers-Samas Printer, Bridgwater c.1960 #2
This is one of the 40-column Powers-Samas accounting machines used at British Cellophane Ltd, Bridgwater, in the 1950/60s. My father, Michael Cornick, worked in the accounts department between 1956-65.
Michael Cornick says: "The pictures are of tabulators which did all the printing from a stack of cards which had previously been sorted into the required order in sorting machines by the holes punched in them. The letter A was the top hole position and the 1, B was the top position and 2 etc. Then the same was with middle position and 1, then the lower position etc. The numerics just punched the number holes.
The pictures show payslips being printed, a continuous ribbon like a typewriter gave a copy and the biro pens drew lines down the pages to make it easier to read each column of info."
