Justice in Education (Will G.)

My name is Will, I’m in 7th grade, and I love watching football. I took a photo of two pieces of paper with the same answers and same grade, but with a different comment from the teacher. This focuses on the issue of teacher favoritism. I connect with this issue because I have seen many of my friends who believe that a teacher doesn’t like them very much. Whether that is true or not, I wanted to pick a unique topic that had not been covered before. I am trying to communicate the message that although teachers are usually thought of as always right and knowing more than the students, they can also make mistakes and allow their decisions to be unfairly affected by their opinions of people. When I took the picture, I wanted it to be against a plain background to bring the focus to the papers, and I had the teachers’ comments and the grades near the middle to draw attention to those. I wanted my picture to be something convincing, not just a teacher giving a student a dirty look, but something really happens. I like how colorful the picture is and how its message is convincing but subtle. I think that spreading awareness about this issue is one of the biggest things I can do. While this isn’t one of the “huge” issues like hunger or bullying, it is still really important.
