Heavenly Light
The American Southwest is an amazing place for photography, but the Antelope Slot Canyons near Page, Arizona are absolutely heavenly.
During this trip we visited both the upper and lower sides of the canyon. The lower canyon was much less touristy and my favorite as a photographer. I will share some images from that section also.
This image was taken in the upper section. As we approached the scene the light beam was attracting a collection of enthusiastic people with cameras. After I felt everyone had enough time to capture this view, I asked my son to walk into the shaft of light. His instructions were to grab two handfuls of sand and throw them up into the light and hold this position. The sand particles are illuminated by the light beam and enhances the shaft. Needless to say, he was a trooper, holding that position as the sand fell down on his face, but I got the look I was after and it has become one of my favorite images.
Thank you for looking.
