De Oogst | The Harvest

This one had been on my bucket list for quite some time now and today, I finally made it there: the MORE Museum in Gorssel.

On top of the permanent collection (pics soon), the main reason was to see the extremely interesting and well curated expo "Charley Toorop & Pyke Koch | Alles of niets (Everything or Nothing)"

----------------

In the Netherlands, Charley Toorop (1891–1955) and Pyke Koch (1901–1991) are regarded as two of the most important figurative painters of the 20th century—perhaps even *the* most important. *Charley Toorop & Pyke Koch | All or Nothing* is the very first exhibition to present the work of these two striking personalities together. Their significant bodies of work show visible parallels, and their lives and loves frequently intersected. Through a major survey of the best works by both artists, Museum MORE orchestrates—for the first time—artistic ‘encounters’ and surprising connections between Toorop and Koch.

Charley Toorop and Pyke Koch were contemporaries, friends, and admirers of each other’s work, yet art history long kept them apart on stylistic grounds: one an Expressionist, the other a Neo-realist or Magic Realist. When placed side by side, however, they reveal a rich web of artistic similarities and fascinating interplays.

Side by side, Toorop and Koch reveal what art-historical labels often obscure: two unique artists who share a much deeper affinity than might be expected. It is precisely in the tension between similarity and individuality that the richness of their ‘parallel worlds’ lies.
