Built out of some metal pieces from a Vex robotics kit we own. Also, used my favorite -- pvc pipe !
Mic is in a piece of pvc pipe and a metal flange is in contact with the pickup. When the striker hits the flange, it triggers the mic. I sound-proofed the mic with some paper towels to cut down ambient noise and it works very well.
By putting the striker on a radiius, I can vary the flange position and change the delay.
