The final descent to Taylor Lake, although switchbacked, was pretty difficult. Caution was necessary on this steep sidehill which was strewn with loose talus stones. One misstep could be disastrous. Every step was careful and calculated. I did safely arrive at the Lake.
Taylor Lake is a stunning high alpine lake nestled in its own basin at an elevation of approximately 11,600 feet. An excellent place for a short break and to refill water containers. I encountered the hikers I had seen earlier on the Highline Trail, also taking a break.
Kennebec Trailhead, and the end of Segment 27, was about a mile away. I already had about 9 miles in for the day with about 7 more to go, so I didn’t linger at the lake for long. Kennebec Pass was another .6 mile away.
