Dayhike from Timberline Lake Trailhead to Mount Massive Wilderness, Segment 10
Started off with a frosty tent but got packed up early and then watched sunrise over Turquoise Lake. It was OK.
The trailhead wasn't far away so I was hiking by 0800. (I was hiking the Colorado Trail and not to Timberline Lake which I have hiked previously and is a great hike.) The trail was a steady uphill climb, mostly on sidehill with a switchback or two. There were some short, fairly steep sections after Hagerman Pass Rd but nothing too difficult. The trees thinned out closer to the Wilderness Area but for the most part the trail remained in the trees. It was about a 6.5 mile roundtrip hike.
After the hike I went to Leadville Laundry for shower and laundry, which worked out well. Very convenient for hikers. Somehow a mouse got into my car last night so while doing laundry I had to organize food, etc into mouse-proof containers. I didn't relish the thought of leaving a mouse in my car while I hiked so I also purchased a trap and some peanut butter.
Spring Creek Pass was the destination for the night and where I would leave my car while hiking from Monarch Pass. I stopped in Lake City to take some pictures of the County Courthouse. I also got some chili from the General Store. Very tasty and it hit the spot. There is no camping at the trailhead, so I drove up a dirt road and found a spot for the night.
