Mushroom, Collegiate West Segment 02, Colorado Trail, CO

CO (Gunnison County)

Day 4

meadow at Texas Creek Road (Collegiate West 02) to random spot above treeline (Collegiate West 03)

As I hiked I did notice evidence of trail maintenance, as I saw two pick mattocks that had been left behind. At the top there was a small pond. Eventually I hiked out of the woods and was glad to know there would be no more blowdowns. Met a couple with a dog who had bushwacked down from the ridge. They were parked at Cottonwood Pass.

I made it to Cottonwood Pass at 1222 (79f at 12,126'). There is a parking area here but the paved road ends here. There were construction crews that I assume were paving the other side of the pass. Just below the pass is a small lake where I got some water. I decided to have an early hot meal and was able to yogi the usage of a runners Coleman Stove. I had a nice long break. It was breezy but not cold.
