Historic Marker, Kenosha Pass, Segment 5, Colorado Trail, CO2
And I thought the day before was fantastic. The Colorado Trail just keeps getting better and better. The thunderstorm lasted until about midnight and was pretty scary at times with some loud, nearby thunderbooms. I wasn't the tallest thing around but I was exposed. Several times I thought to pack up and head down, but I did not. After I survived the night, I started my trek down to Kenosha Pass.
Kenosha Pass is at 10,000 feet and is the beginning of Segment 6. There are forest service campgrounds on both sides of US285. Kenosha East CG and Kenosha Pass CG. At Kenosha East, I actually saw some 'trail magic' in the form of a couple of cans of soda left for hikers. I left them for the next hiker. The small town of Jefferson can also be reached via Kenosha Pass. I had made some big mile days so I did not need to resupply at Jefferson, but that also meant today would need to be big.
