Beaver City Mining Camp, Buena Vista, CO (5)
Buena Vista, CO (Chaffee County)
Although prospecting took place in this area as early as 1867, the real activity didn't take off until 1879 when the canyon exploded with mines everywhere; the four major mines being the Tasmania, the Fortune, the Banker and the Swiss Boy. Towns sprang up everywhere. Although some of the original buildings in Rockdale/Silverdale and Beaver City remain today, only the restored remains of Vicksburg and Winfield are truly preserved for historical investigation. Many of the properties in the towns of Clear Creek are privately owned and one should watch for the "private property" signs. (1)
