43158 Saltash 5th March 2021
43158 leads the 08.00 Cardiff Central - Par into Saltash station with 43004 on the rear. The train terminated at Par due to lengthy engineering line closures in west Cornwall. I was on my way home from my monthly chiropractor visit in the town and stopped off here. as I was passing. This photo will make a good puzzle in a few years time as we look back on our barrel-of-laughs 'Pandemic Year And A Bit' and play 'SPOT THE FACE MASK WEARER'. There are five of them in the picture. Can you see them ? A bottle of hand sanitiser to the first person to spot all five. This was taken on my knackered Nikon which has been having deteriorating problems since the end of the summer. First with a foreign body inside, then auto-focus problems and since the new year I have lost the LED screen meaning I can only take photos of very slow or stationary trains unless the sun is out as I can only use the auto setting. Looks like it's on its way out. Fortunately there have been no special workings, freights or railtours recently and a rather long lockdown. but I need to sort something out.
The refurbishment of Saltash station is nearing completion and with covid restrictions being gradually lifted it will start to become the new communal space that it has been intended for. A preview of the interior was shown on the excellent TV series 'The Architecture The Railways Built' shown on the Yesterday Channel back in late January fronted by the enthusiastic Tim Dunn.
