Wind Peak - Take One

Wind Peak, as you can see, is a turbine installation vessel. Here it can be seen leaving the Siemens Gamesa plant on Humberside and heading out into the North Sea, more specifically the East Anglia Three wind farm to install the six turbine sets it is carrying. There is an interesting article on the BBC website which makes entertaining reading. Apparently, the East Anglia Three wind farm, when complete will generate 1.4 gigawatts of energy which Scottish Power Renewables say is enough power to supply the requirements of 1.3 million homes. Now maths was never my strongest subject, I only got an O Level! If we assume that they mean 1.4 gigawatts per day then they are working on each household only using 1.1 kilowatts. A quick search of the net reveals that average daily household consumption is 8.5 kilowatts meaning this farm will actual produce enough energy for 160,000 households. It’s not surprising that U.K. energy prices are some of the highest in the world. www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c895jgexpqeo
