Jill and I managed to notch up just over 25km on our bikes yesterday for the obligatory ride to Cape Vlamingh at the west end of the beautiful island. We even managed to organize the selfie of us two with the Cape in the background. Not too bad a physical effort for a pair of oldsters like we are, but I noticed some of the hills were getting more taxing on the way back to civilisation and a recovery swim at the Basin. The inhabitants of the seal colony at nearby Cathedral Rocks were still loafing for the tourist cameras, but generally most of the wildlife we’d become used to describing on previous visits was conspicuous by its absence. However, we did see a fairly fat looking Dugite snake cross the road in front of us not long after we’d eaten a sustaining ham and salad sandwich. Perhaps interestingly, Jill and I can remember exactly most of the places we’ve seen snakes on the island during our many previous visits.
