This jewelry box was likely made by a commercial manufacturing company because it was purchased from a department store by my great-grandmother in the 1940's. The jewelry box appears to be made from mechanically-cut wood held together by nails and wood glue and finished with a thin type of synthetic sheet coating or adhesive paper. The jewelry box's interior is lined on the bottom with velvet fabric while the exterior is decorated with gold-colored (likely stenciled) designs. The jewelry box also includes a self-rising ring tray inside of it, which is connected to and opened in conjunction with a bottom tray via brass links.
Condition: The condition of this jewelry box is good (4 out of 5), as it appears to be structurally and physically stable with minimal damages. The jewelry box only needs repairs for aesthetic reasons, i.e. its exterior surface needs to be cleaned and there are a few rips/tears and scratches in the velvet fabric lining.
