This picture was taken at UMD's campus farm. Personally, I think that this picture relates closely to UN's sustainable development goals because it reflects our efforts to achieve a sustainable future from the roots of our consumption. If we track back everything that we consume, we will realize that agriculture and poultry contributes a lot of pollution, if not done properly. Sustainable Development Goals 1 and 11, can and should be tied together as we proceed into the future. Meeting demands of zero hunger while maintaining sustainable cities and communities should go hand in hand, and this image clearly reflects that. We should ensure that our farms are sustainable, while allowing it to provide for us. In a way, this goes both ways. Us maintaining a sustainable practice, without jeopardizing our consumption.
Another important thing that I realized about this farm, is that the animals are very well taken care off. Despite the location being in the middle of campus, there was not much pollution in terms of smell or runoff. Even when it rains heavily, the water that flows our of the farm was not visually dirty. Likewise, being able to incorporate these ideals into future developments should our priority as a community. Sustainable cities and infrastructures have to be an integral part of our plan for the future.
