Checking our rigs after 4X4 fun. The 160 Mi. return trip lies ahead; Never ever assume- always check twice!
We had a swell weekend.
Saturday we headed south. Booked a really nice B&B in a town called Simpelveld, did a bit of get-to-know-your-rig-kinda 'seminar': Do's & Dont's like Warn Hubs, Transfercase issues etc. Funny, how basic 'Jeepin' rules are 'alien' to modern instant and automatic-result-junkies. Guess the modern 4wheeler is used to push buttons and not having to leave the vehicle ever, instead of getting involved with the rig, sharing its analogue, hopelessly clumsy but dependable mechanics.
U DIY! This tells you a lot. Things not mentioned on a display, but in real life!
Whilst sharing the dirt & fun, lots of 'fanciful' language, plenty cussin' & hollering with the engine smell and trans making noise like hell. This vehicle talks to you.
Within 1/4 Hr. Several major physical issues will rise, forcing the wimps to make urgent calls to whatever shape, form or person, (even mummy in law, she nagged endlessly about you-name-it-and-you-will get-it-if-you-keep-this-up) one's got listed in his mobile phone. Aargh, my back, my neck.. MOMMY...the SSSSaaaangyouuung, Kiiaaa, LandWindy or whatever S.Asia's Low-End Please-do-not-look-too-intensly-at it-it'll-get-dents-or-dings!

No, my 1977 CJ5 is a honest American-built, overengineered, sturdy and very inefficient machine if compared to modern 4X4 standards. So?
Once I needed roadside assistance; '77 CJ died on me, literally.
The first guy asked me ,,where to plug in, for a read-out'' which he needed to assess the problem... I ended up with three AAA-Vehicles, the last one arriving was a man about 56yrs of age.
He calmly stepped up to the enginebay, gave me a glance, and asked ,,did she die on-ya, like that?''
,,Yup, like a candle, poof.. dead!'' I replied.
Within less than 2Mins. he found a wire scuffed bare, shorting out the vehicle completely.
I need to do some work on my rig, I stored it for now. Boy, do I miss driving it.
Spring time arrives one day soon, I will be one happy Jeeper. And that's what it's all about, taking care of a nice old car, giving, caring.
