" The Old Lead Mines "

Photo at dusk of the old lead mines chimney at Carrigolligan, Ballycorus, Co. Dublin.

The lead mines operated here from 1826 to 1913 and it was a very hazardous place to work. Please see the photos in the attached album for a brief history.

The chimney is a well know landmark and is visible all over south Co. Dublin. Its a wondeful structure with a set of Granite projecting steps that cantilevear out from the walls and form a spiral staircase to the top as can be seen in the photo.

I only got one photo as it was getting very darks so I have tinted in the sky slightly as it was a bit colourless.

Hope you like the moodiness of it.

Here`s Sean Keanes rendition of Ewan Mc Call`s song, "Tunnel Tigers" which tells the story of the Irish ex mining workers who went to England to work on the building of the London underground.

" Hares run free on the Wicklow mountains,

Wild geese fly and the fox`s play,

Sporting Wicklow boys are working,

They`re driving a tunnel through the London clay "
