Railfreight Evolution
One of the former mainstays of trainload coal operations in the UK, the Class 58 was usurped in the rail freight market by the now ubiquitous Class 66 after only 20 years of use in the UK. An example of each stands side by side here, with 58023 'Leicester Depot' representing the BREL-built machines, and 66773 'Pride of GB Railfreight' representing the American invasion.
Taken during what is likely to be the last open day hosted at Wabtec's Doncaster Works before closure comes in December 2026.
