*** Caroline Monnet*** (b. Ottawa 1985) The Future Left Behind – 2021
This work evokes a bird’s eye view of a northern village. Strips o air-barrier membrane – a wrap commonly seen on unfinished houses – have been sewn on to large piece of fabric at a 90-degree angle, giving the ‘painting” a kinetic property. The patches of colour suggest random clusters of small houses accumulating across the northern region. With this work, the artist shares both perspective and an affinity for the land with Riopelle as expressed in his works iceberg I and Echo, also on view in this room.
