This brilliant and well-read daughter of the Grand Vizier volunteered to become the next bride of the Sultan who had devised a plan for preventing his wives from being unfaithful to him; he married them as virgins and then had them executed the morning after their first night together. But Scheherazade enthralled him with her wonderful storytelling for 1001 nights during which time her fell in love with her and so she was saved and became his queen.
