Mask of P. Seferis by T. Papagiannis
This is a mask made of clay of greek poet P. Seferis nobel prize winner in 1963 by artist T. Papagiannis. Inspired by the past and antiquity i feel he has created a "burial mask" similar to the one found in Mycenae of Agememnon albeit in gold. It seems that this poet with eloquent refences to the past and Greek culture is being "immortalized" in a similar manner by the artist. The craftmanship is unique.
*Th. Papayiannis was born in Elliniko, Ioannina, in 1942. From 1961 to 1966 he studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts. In 1967 he studied ancient Greek Art and the Art of the Mediterranean Basin. His Mediterranean journeys took him to Egypt, Asia Minor, Cyprus, South Italy and Sicily. For many years Th. Papayiannis was a Professor of Sculpture at the Athens School of Fine Arts. He currently lives and works in Athens, Greece.
