28. Unblocking the evaporator.
Evidently, something solidified in the bottom of the evaporator when the methyl formate left the system. Suggestions as to what the 'something' is, included lard or oxidised compressor oil.
I gradually heated the evaporator; 100C for 10mins, 150C for another 10 mins, and then 200C for 10 mins also. By this time oil was vaporising so I stopped. A few bursts of nitrogen at 250psi freed up the blockage. Note that the Schrader valve cores were removed before applying the heat.
A previous attempt at using a heat gun applied to the evaporator failed, as the evaporator was radiating the heat faster than it was being applied. In fact, the hottest it got up to was 82C. Besides, I wasn't sure where the high side tube comes out inside - so I could have been heating the wrong part. Putting it in an oven was the obvious solution.
